City of Rocky Mount Animal ControlThe answer is a combination of personnel and city supervision. The Rocky Mount Animal Shelter is a division of the Police Department but the Animal Control/Shelter personnel are civilian. Our policy is to hold dogs and cats for seven days when picked up stray or at large instead of the three days required by state law. We also do not have a set time or day of week for euthanization. We pride ourselves on the fact that we only put down when we have to. Unfortunately however it is still way to often. We receive full support from our supervisors as long as we remain fiscally responsible.1101 N. Pitt County Humane Society, INCThe Humane Society in Eastern North Carolina was established over 20 years ago to protect animals from cruelty and abuse. It was designed not only to serve as a safe haven for homeless and neglected pets but also to act as a resource and service to the community of Pitt County. By educating the public about issues pertaining to animals, we feel that we can work towards the elimination of over breeding of dogs and cats and teach owners how to be responsible pet owners. At the same time, we hope to facilitate adoption of pets to good homes so that we can allow more of the unwanted pets to enter our gates.
