In 2003, Ocean County's animal shelters impounded 8,883 cats. 3,624 of those cats were killed because no one ever came to adopt them. We founded Ocean County Cat Rescue in response to those appalling statistics. We pull urgent cats from local shelters and foster them until they find new homes. We also take in strays and, if space permits, pre-approved owner surrenders.
Aside from intakes, OCCR also promotes the spaying and neutering of all animals. One female cat and her offspring can produce 80,000 cats in seven years. Cats can start having kittens when they are four months old and can have up to 3 litters a year.
