Humane Society Northwest Indiana

Humane Society Northwest Indiana is a Not for Profit Humane Society located in Gary's Miller Beach neighborhood. We are a small facility that has been called the Cleanest and Friendliest Shelter that our visitors have seen! Our animals stay with us as long as they remain healthy and adoptable, but we really want our furry "guests" to find homes quickly... but we do request an application from our potential adopters. We are open every day 11AM to 4PM, except we are closed on Thursdays and Sundays. Please come and visit or call! We are not for profit and do rely on donations and grants for our day to day operation... so of course every donation and successful adoption are very appreciated!

Mary Miller Rescue

We rescue purebred Dobermans and exotic birds. We are NOT a 501-c3 (donations are not tax deductible). We take care of the bills for the animals with the help of our wonderful vet, and a handful of other Doberman and Bird lovers. For the past 25+ years (and don't ask me [Chuck, Mary's husband] exactly how many years!) Mary has been involved with rescuing just about anything that came along (including me!). She is very knowledgeable in canine and parrot behavior and has a degree in Animal Science. She is also a groomer, dog trainer, pet sitter, and an animal massage practioner. She also represents a holistic pet food/nutritional supplements company out of Florida. She has taken her birds into libraries and schools to educate children about pet care and responsibility. We are a family affair! Our sons Andrew, Stephen, and Joseph have grown up around the animals and have become very knowledgeable in pet care, etc. They are a tremendous help to the rescue efforts.

Hancock County Humane Society

The Hancock County Humane Society is a no-kill*, non-profit animal shelter. This shelter has been in existance for many years and has always been staffed entirely by volunteers and funded entirely on donations from the local community. It is our goal to find permanent safe and loving homes for the pets in our care. We would also like to promote community education and awareness. It cannot be stressed enough the importance of early spay/neuter of a pet. We simply cannot keep up with the rate of over-population in cats and dogs on our own and must have the support of the entire community if we are ever to eliminate this problem. Additionally, we would like to stress the importance of a pet wearing I.D.. This can be in the form of a collar with a tag, a microchip implanted by your veterinarian or both. A lost pet is most likely to be returned to its home if it is wearing I.D.. Please note that we are NOT part of the county Animal Care and Control Shelter but are a completely separate shelter. *No-kill meaning healthy pets with good temperaments are kept until adopted no matter how many years it may take. We do first attempt to treat unhealthy pets whenever possible.

Greenfield/Hancock County Animal Control

We are a city and county funded shelter that is dedicated to public safety and animal rescue. We continue to work to control the animal population within our area, by requiring all animals adopted from our facility be spay or neutered. With this program we hope to reduce the rate of euthanasia. Our staff is always available to educate the public about the health and welfare issues of animals, and enforce cruelty and neglect laws as well as ordinances within our city and county. We also work hard to reunite lost and stray pets with their owners and promote new and responsible pet ownership. If you lose your pet please make every effort to find them. Visit your local Animal Control Shelter and all surrounding shelters, post signs, posters with veterinarians and stores, as well as ads in the newspapers. Remember THEY depend on You.

Midwest Friends of Animals INC.

We are a small, non-profit group of concerned citizens in a severely economically depressed area, with little community support for animal welfare. WE HAVE RECENTLY ACCEPTED ANOTHER BUILDING WITH CATS TO BE CARED FOR FROM LYONS FERAL CAT GUARDIANS WITH 15 CATS!! PLEASE HELP US CONTINUE THEIR CARE!!! While there are so many uwanted animals to help, we do NOT simply hand out pets. We take them into our hearts and homes and care greatly about their future. We do this because we care and want to know that the animals we help are in the best homes possible. Toward this end, we require applications, home visits and adoption fees which, (without government funding) allow us to continue this effort. Our group consists of dedicated volunteers only with NO PAID EMPLOYEES!! EVERY DONATION GOES DIRECTLY TO HELP AN ANIMAL! We are not a shelter but we do have a cat sanctuary and our dogs are housed in foster homes. WE ALWAYS NEED DONATIONS OF ANY ANIMAL ITEMS: HEARTWORM MEDS, FLEA TREATMENT, etc., AS WELL AS MONETARY DONATIONS! WE DO NOT RECEIVE GOV'T FUNDING OF ANY SORT AND RELY ONLY ON THE KINDNESS OF ANIMAL LOVERS TO HELP US CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS!

Humane Society of Noble County

The Humane Society of Noble County is a small shelter on the Southeast side of Kendallville. We are able to house dogs, cats, kittens and puppies. There are four employees and one manager working all week long at the shelter. Our animals are kept very clean, dry and fed. We love on them daily and give them the best possible TLC we can. They are let out of the kennels daily to run and roam free in the fenced in back yard (supervised of course). Our staff works very hard at maintaining the upmost standards for maintaining a clean and sanitary environment.
