Fancy Cats Rescue Team

We are a non-profit, all-volunteer rescue that operates out of the Fair Lakes PETsMART in Fairfax, Va. Since being founded we have found loving homes for approximately 3,000 cats in the National Capital area. Fancy Cats works to end needless euthanasia by providing a safety net for cats that have been abandoned. We rescue friendly strays, cats on “death row” at local shelters, and assist other rescue groups and personnel in emergency situations. We take owner release cats as space permits with all medical work done (including sterilization, FeLV/FIV test, and rabies and distemper shots that are current). We also require a tax dedeuctible donation of our choosing depending on the cats age and general health. We take strays as space permits. We do not accept feral (wild) cats.

Save a Dog, Save a Cat - SADSAC

SADSAC was formed in order to help save adoptable pets on an occasional basis. Every once in a while, I would become involved in a situation where a pet was to be needlessly euthanized, and I found myself trying to find a rescue group that could help. Now I am the one to try to offer help. Our focus is to save lives and prevent litters. There are so many that are euthanized every day--if we prevent one litter or save one life, it goes a long way!

Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare (BREW)

Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare of Northern Virginia, Inc. (BREW) was founded in February 1999 by Laura Charles Johnson in response to the growing number of beagles in the DC area who needed help. Ms. Johnson had worked in rescue for more than a year before founding BREW. As Laura became more involved in rescue, she learned most breeds were represented by local rescue groups. Beagles were the exception. BREW became incorporated in February of 1999 and received its non-profit determination from the IRS in April of 2000.

Fairfax County Animal Control/Shelter

All stray animals are held for a minimum of six days without a collar or ten days if wearing a collar, before being placed for adoption. All animals released by owners are available for adoption upon arrival and during normal adoption hours. Before consideration for adoption, all animals are evaluated by staff for obvious signs of health and/or behavior problems; however, the shelter cannot guarantee the health or temperament of any animal. Within one week after adoption, all dogs and cats must be taken to one of the participating veterinarians for a free health examination. Any additional testing, lab-work, vaccinations, medications, etc., are the financial responsibility of the adopter. There is a $20 adoption fee for dogs and cats. Spay/neuter fees are as follows: F-cats $55; M-cats $30; M/F dogs $65.
