Collie Rescue of Greater Illinois, Inc.

Collie Rescue of Greater Illinois, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation established in 1995. We provide shelter and care to purebred Collies which have been abandoned or turned in to shelters. The Collies are placed in temporary foster homes until a permanent home can be found. Our commitment is to place the Collies in the best possible permanent home to give them a second chance in life. We have successfully placed Collies ranging in age from five weeks to twelve years. Prospective families that wish to adopt a Collie will be interviewed. Basic information about the family, pet ownership history and why they want a Collie is requested. Our goal is to achieve a successful match between the Collie and the adopting family. We want a happy ending to every rescue story, and part of that process is selecting a suitable Collie to fit into the lifestyle and needs of the adopting family.

Greater Chicago Ferret Association Shelter

The GCFA is a Non-Profit organization with both a Ferret Shelter & Club. We are the Oldest and Largest Ferret Association in the Greater Chicago Area! In trying to come up with a mission statement that would reflect what G.C.F.A. is all about, and how the volunteer's that help us feel about what they do. I chose this short story that was written by someone who wishes to remain anonymous. An old man was walking along a beach after a particularly high and violent tide had receded, leaving thousands of starfish stranded above the waterline to die. Ahead of him he saw a youth, bending down and then standing to fling something into the waves. Coming closer, he saw the youth was tossing starfish back into the ocean where they had a chance. "Why bother?" the old man told the youth. "There are thousands here. You can't toss them all back before they die. You can't even toss a small fraction of them back in time. What you're doing doesn't matter." The youth pondered that a moment, looking at the starfish he held in his hand. "It matters to this one," he replied, and threw it back into the water. This is all that anyone can ask and/or do. If you can, help us save one more!!!

A.D.O.P.T. Animal Deserving of Proper Treatment

Since opening on October 31, 1989, A.D.O.P.T. has found homes for over 12,000 pets. It takes a lot of hard work on the part of our generous volunteers to find homes for between fifteen and fifty kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs every week. We continue to spend our days working long hours because we love the animals and want to save them by finding a good home for as many of them as we can! While ADOPT has, on occasion, adopted dogs to homes out of state, we DO NOT ship animals. In the past, prospective adopters from surrounding states have driven here to meet our dogs and cats, and to search for a potential friend. Our volunteers work very hard to make the best possible match between your home and lifestyle and our dogs and cats. An important part of this process is meeting you and having you meet with the animals. We have a safe fenced area where family members can interact with potential adoptees, and where our knowledgeable volunteers will help answer your questions.

Animal Heartline Humane Association

Animal Heartline was founded by a small group of animal lovers who were individually helping stray and abandoned animals. Becoming chartered in 1979 as a humane society and officially recognized as a not-for-profit group enabled us to care for more animals. We are a no-kill organization staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to finding homes for stray and unwanted pets. We obtain medical treatment for these pets and provide them with food and shelter until permanent, loving homes are found.
