Belleville Area Humane SocietyIn 1959, a caring group of volunteers gathered to share a common and deeply-held concern: a desire to help the thousands of unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals of this community. Their dedication to the welfare of animals led to the creation of the Belleville Area Humane Society. BAHS depends almost entirely upon the intrest and support of concerned citizens through donations and membership in the organization. A Board of Directors is charged with governance of the organization, including management of policies, finances, physical plant, operations, personnel, fundraising events, media and public relations, public outreach activities and all other matters that relate to its purpose and activities. The main activities of the shelter are carried out by empolyees (with additional assistance provided by volunteers) under the direction of a manager. BAHS is a non-profit organization. It's support is derived primarily from membership fees, donations, bequests, adoption fees and fundraising activities. Macoupin County Adopt-A-PetAdopt-A-Pet, established in 1983, is a not-for-profit, no-kill animal shelter located in Benld, Illinois, registered with and inspected by the State of Illinois. No state or federal funding is received; Adopt-A-Pet is supported solely by memberships, fundraisers and donations. Its mission is to rescue abandoned and/or abused pets and place them in loving homes. Adopt-A-Pet also accepts pets from families who no longer want or are unable to care for their pet. Local authorities and police departments call Adopt-A-Pet in cases of animal abandonment, abuse, or auto accidents involving an injured animal. Henry County Animal ControlThe Henry County Animal Control Department was established in its current facility in Cambridge, Illinois in 1978. It has a staff of two, the Animal Control Officer and an Office Assistant . This department enforces state and county ordinances pertaining to animal abuse, bites, rabies control, and handles the issuing of rabies tags and domestic animal registration for all of Henry County. Over the years the Department has been a self-supporting program, costing no taxpayer dollars except for vehicles and a building expansion. The Animal Control Department also works closely with, and is currently a branch of, the Henry County Sheriff's Office.
