Homeward Bound Pet Shelter

The mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002. On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community. During fiscal year 2006, we placed 258 dogs and 128 cats. That's a total of 386 animals whose lives we have touched in a very positive way! We rescued pets not only from the Decatur and Macon County area but from several humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois. Our vision to establish community outreach programs is becoming a reality. During the past year, we have held obedience training classes, gave presentations to schools and other organizations, and started a foster program.

Pets Without Parents of Logan and Mason Counties

"Pets Without Parents of Mason & Logan Counties" is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Central Illinois. We are a foster based organization that takes in strays, abandoned, lost and abused cats, kittens, dogs and puppies and help to find them new homes. Our funding is strictly from donations and fund-raising. The pets in our care receive veterinary services, socialization, basic obedience training, and LOTS OF LOVE! It is our belief that these pets are a member of our family (if only for a short time) and so they will only be adopted to "parents" that will treat them as family members, too. Please join us and help make life better for unfortunate pets without parents!

Lori's Pet Palace

I saw a real need for pet rescue in the Centralia area. So many animals are euthanized each year in the Centralia Shelter that I decided to get out there and help the Humane Society out. I started out fostering for the Centralia Humane Society, but I wanted to do more. My main focus is on pulling cats and dogs from the city shelter, but I do take strays in off the street from time to time.

Itty Bitty Pound Babies

Itty Bitty Pound Babies is a small rescue focused on the very young, high needs animals that end up in pounds. We rely on volunteers and foster homes to provide low disease-exposure environments and high quality nursing care for the littlest of the unwanteds. We are also commited to helping find homes for dogs and cats in pounds, and those animals that have been found homeless but are being cared for by individuals instead of immediately being taken to the pound. We are devoted to spay/neuter as the solution to most of the suffering companion animals endure. Please send an email requesting a pre-application, fill out the pre-app, and return it as soon as you can. If the animal you are interested in is still available, we will request you sign a contract and pay an adoption fee for the animal. All animals must be spayed and neutered by six months of age. If you are adopting an adult animal, it must be altered before you can take it home. Most animals are current with shots and wormings and are treated with frontline, and all qualify for a month of free shelter insurance.
