Aid to Animals of Northern IllinoisAid to Animals is a Illinois shelter concerned with finding homes for some of the millions of homeless animals in our country. We take in cats and dogs. In the spring, there are many homeless pregnant cats who we place in foster homes. The kittens are spayed or neutered and then placed for adoption. The mama cats are spayed and also placed for adoption. Many times we also rescue dogs from shelters and holding facilities when their "time" is up. We try to rescue those sweet, loving animals that might find a home. We are strong advocates that adult dogs and cats can make the best pets for many reasons. Also, most potential adopters want puppies and kittens, however, when they realize the work and destruction involved, many times the kittens and puppies are given up to the shelter. Adults are calmer and learn quickly. They are extremely appreciative of the chance for a new home. Please consider an adult pet instead of a youngster.P. O. Almost Home Dachsund RescueAlmost Home Dachshund Rescue Society is a nationwide organization of volunteers that seeks to rescue abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mixes, provide necessary veterinary and behavioral care for them, and place them in homes where they will be a perfect fit. As an organization, we operate a little differently from many other national rescue groups: Almost Home rescuers work together, but individual rescuers retain their independent status. As a group, we share access to a website, transport and foster help, information about dogs needing help, and general support. As independent rescuers, we maintain control over how we rescue and place our foster dogs. Members are responsible for the medical care the dogs require, and they determine their own adoption fees. One of our primary goals as a group is raising money to help our own members, as well as other rescue groups and shelters, care for dogs who require medical treatments that cannot be covered by adoption fees. American Eskimo Dog RescueThe American Eskimo Dog Rescue is a local chapter of Heartbandits, a national volunteer organization that is dedicated to finding the “right� home for Eskies who are lost, abandoned or abused. We care for dogs of every age group. When rescued, our Eskies are vet checked, given necessary vaccinations and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Our Eskies reside with their volunteer foster family and are evaluated for temperament, training and behavior issues. If we do not have an Eskie that meets your needs, we may know of Eskies in other rescues/shelters and will gladly share that information. Animal Care League ShelterThe ACL's mission is... Protecting animals from improper use, abuse, neglect, inhumane treatment and health hazards. Educating the public about responsible pet ownership. Sheltering lost, abandoned and unwanted animals. Preventing the birth of unwanted animals. Reuniting lost pets and their families. Adopting animals into loving and responsible homes. Lovingly caring for the pets that reside in our animal shelter. This mission is accomplished through the dedication and energy of our small shelter staff, board of directors, and legion of faithful volunteers. The Animal Care League accepts dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens, which we care for until we find responsible new owners. These animals have either been surrendered by their owners who can no longer keep them or have been transferred from other animal control facilities. Our ability to accept animals is limited to the space we have available. We euthanize animals only in cases of irremediable health problems or other grave circumstances. We have had an early spay/neuter program in place since 1994; this allows us to spay or neuter each animal we offer for adoption, one of our contributions to ending the horrible cycle of pet overpopulation.
