Humane Society of Raleigh County Inc.The Humane Society of Raleigh County, Inc. is a non-profit organization which has been serving people and pets since 1979. Its mission is to prevent animal abuse and neglect. Located in Beckley, the county seat of Raleigh County, WV, the animal shelter staff provide adoption opportunities, animal control, public education, and 24-hour on-call emergency coverage for all county residents. By agreement with the Raleigh County Commission and the City of Beckley, the Humane Society enforces state and local laws pertaining to animals but is not a government agency. The animal shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday excluding holidays from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For more information about the animal shelter, call 304-253-8921 or fax 304-255-9134. There is a written contract which the adopting owner must sign which requires that any animal which has not already been altered shall be spayed or neutered by a deadline set by the shelter. In cooperation with the Humane Society of Raleigh County, several local veterinarians discount the cost of surgery by as much as 40%, but it is the responsibility of the new owner to schedule and pay for the surgery and mandatory rabies vaccination, which is also discounted. Raleigh County Animal RescueThe Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) whose home base is located in Coal City, WV was active in rescuing our pet companions prior to becoming an organization in March 2003. The RCAR is a small "no-kill" organization and operates only through donations and volunteers. Currently we are dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Our efforts are guided toward finding permanent homes for our animals. Along with this, we stress the importance of neutering and spaying all pets in order to maintain their good health and benefit society. Marshall County Animal ShelterThe Marshall County Animal Rescue League consists of a small group of dedicated individuals who through enthusiasm and commitment have turned an "unsheltered" county into a county that has an outstanding shelter program. Our Humane Society is contracted by the Marshall County Commission to oversee animal shelter operations.
