Iowa County Humane SocietyIn 1998 a group of concerned citizens in Iowa County got together to solve the stray and abandoned animal problem. The group had no money just an idea and had one thing in in common, the total love and devotion to animals. From that very first meeting the Iowa County Humane Society (ICHS) was formed. Kritter Rescue Team AssociationOur dogs live with us as family members; we know them well and can tell you what type of household would be best for them. They come to us from shelters and pounds that are full and desperately need an alternative to euthanizing for space. We try to help whenever we can by providing a safe place for these dogs until they are adopted. Some of our dogs come to us directly from owners who have had an unfortunate change in their lives and can no longer keep a beloved pet. Lakeland Animal ShelterWalworth County Humane Society was accepted by the state of Wisconsin as a non-profit, tax exempt organization in November of 1978. In 1985 the name was changed to Lakeland Animal Welfare Society (LAWS). Lakeland Animal Shelter is owned and operated by Lakeland Animal Welfare Society. It is centrally located three miles south of Elkhorn, WI. on highway 67, and it is the only animal shelter in Walworth County. Its doors are open to the public six days a week except on legal holidays. The shelter is staffed by dedicated and trained employees. Volunteers also play a crucial role in meeting many of the shelter's special care needs. A board of directors, elected by LAWS members, establishes the policies of the Society and the operation guidelines for Lakeland Animal Shelter. At LAWS it is our goal to prevent cruel treatment to animals.
