Animal Care League Shelter

The ACL's mission is... Protecting animals from improper use, abuse, neglect, inhumane treatment and health hazards. Educating the public about responsible pet ownership. Sheltering lost, abandoned and unwanted animals. Preventing the birth of unwanted animals. Reuniting lost pets and their families. Adopting animals into loving and responsible homes. Lovingly caring for the pets that reside in our animal shelter. This mission is accomplished through the dedication and energy of our small shelter staff, board of directors, and legion of faithful volunteers. The Animal Care League accepts dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens, which we care for until we find responsible new owners. These animals have either been surrendered by their owners who can no longer keep them or have been transferred from other animal control facilities. Our ability to accept animals is limited to the space we have available. We euthanize animals only in cases of irremediable health problems or other grave circumstances. We have had an early spay/neuter program in place since 1994; this allows us to spay or neuter each animal we offer for adoption, one of our contributions to ending the horrible cycle of pet overpopulation. We rely entirely on membership dues, donations, and proceeds from our fundraising projects to finance our mission

Cat Overpopulation Planned Endeavor (C.O.P.E.)

Cat Overpopulation Planned Endeavor is a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of stray and feral cats through sterilization and education. C.O.P.E. would like to see a day when no more cats are living homeless and forgotten on the streets. Until that day arrives, however, we are dedicated to spaying and neutering as many cats as we can, while providing care for colonies of feral cats and removing non-feral strays from the streets and placing them into our adoption program whenever possible.

Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge, Illinois

Animal Welfare League was founded in 1935 to stop the suffering of animals that seemed common place in Chicagoland. Our founding shelter, located at 6224 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago, still exists today as the only humane society on the south side of Chicago. Our Wabash shelter operates in an economically depressed area and provides valuable services to residents in the area such as shelter and care to homeless and needy animals, low cost clinic services to pet owners on a limited income and no-charge monthly pet food distribution.

Animal Welfare League - Chicago Ridge Location

Please Note: Adoptions are only handled at this location. Everyday the Animal Welfare League saves animals lives and works to improve the way they are treated and regarded by society. In the Chicagoland area, we help all animals through our adoption programs, our low cost clinic services, our local cruelty investigations, and our public education programs. Locally we work to improve municipal, city and state laws and regulations regarding the treatment of animals and operate the states largest non-profit animal shelter program. We have made progress since our beginning in 1935, but much more work needs to be done. The Animal Welfare League is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that receives no city, state or federal funding and relies on private donations to continue with its mission of helping all animals.

Grundy County Humane Society/DANE911

Are you interested in adopting a "rescued" Great Dane or in knowing more information about them? Here's a summary of what we do and a phone number to call... We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are contacted by humane societies, animal control facilities, and individuals interested in placing Danes of assorted ages into new homes. We arrange to see the dogs to help check temperatment, and we take them to a veterinary facility for fecal and heartworm checks, shots, spay or neuters, and micro chipping before placing them into new homes. We do not provide dogs for breeding purposes. We interview interested families over the phone to fill out information sheets about their circumstances with housing, children, other pets, amount of yard, exercise, or walking which can be provided. This enables us to attempt to place the dog, as it becomes available, not by the order in which you enroll with us, but by the best "fit" for the dog. Expect to pay approximately $600.00 for a rescued Dane. We hold this donation a week until we see that the dog is fitting in with its new family. Then the donation is used to fund the medical expenses for the next dog. We are happy to talk about medical, feed, or other problems you may have with your adopted Dane, and we ask you to sign a contract agreeing to alert us in future if you have questions or problems with your dog. We provide information on gastric torsion and bloat in large dog breeds and discuss and require that you are prepared to keep the dog on heartworm preventative monthly as treating heartworm is expensive, time consuming, and very stressful for dogs and owners. We do not breed or sell puppies. We will be happy to try to put you in conact with reputable breeders who x-ray for genetic problems, use spay and neuter contracts on pet quality dogs, and who are "responsible" for helping readopt their own dogs that must be returned for some reason. We are looking for Great Homes for Great Danes. Do you qualify?
