American Brittany Rescue was formed in 1991 as a cooperative effort of Brittany owners, breeders, trialers, & fanciers who believe we have a responsibility not only for our own dogs and the dogs we produce, but for our breed as a whole. Because many rescue dogs can be traced 1-3 generations back to a recognized breeder, we believe all breeders should take it upon themselves to assist Brittanys in need, in any way they can.
The purpose of rescue is to take in stray, abandoned, surrendered and/or impounded purebred Brittanys, provide them with foster care, health and temperament screening, offer an opportunity for rehabilitation if necessary, assure their health and place them in new homes.

We are dedicated to saving as many homeless, neglected and abused animals as possible. All of the animals we take into our foster homes are given medical attention as required. They are current with their shots, heartworm preventive and flea/tick treatments. Each animal is spayed or neutered as soon as she/he is old and/or healthy enough for the surgery. Our dogs and cats are kept in a home environment, use a dog door and live with other dogs and cats in groups that get along together. Our special rescues, lizards, birds other little fuzzy creatures also live in our home. We also have rescued horses and pot belly pigs; although not part of our rescue, we have Texas Longhorns that the other kids think are here for their entertainment. We strive to match pets and people so that everyone is happy. The animals here are part of our family; we hope that one of them might become a part of yours. We maintain a list of people looking for a paticular type of pet to join their family and provide a listing service for anyone needing to find a new home for any animal.

The Tarheel Weimaraner Club has a very active Rescue Program. We have rescued and placed over 700 Weimaraners in the last 15 years. We do not agree that there is a shortage of Weimaraners! Our rescue program tries hard to match the right dog to the right owner, and we have been very successful for that reason. We get the dogs in a variety of ways, such as from shelters, or from owners who are divorcing and moving to an apartment that doesn't allow dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked, spayed or neutered, housebroken and crate-trained. We also refer people to others wishing to place their own dog. Often, in a home where both people work, an adult dog with some training can be a better choice than a rambunctious puppy.

We are a small group of volunteers in San Angelo, Texas who help out purebred animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, etc) in the state of Texas. Because of our small size we had to have some limitations so we decided to help purebred because we are familiar with the characteristics (temperments, needs) of purebred animals. All the dogs live in a home environment and are crate trained so that they will more easily make the transition into their permanent homes. The primary breeds we help are large breeds- great danes, afghan hounds, greyhounds, Irish Wolfhounds, mastiffs, etc, but always have plenty of room for the smaller animals in needed such as Persians, Scottish Folds, Siamese, etc. We also have bird, rodent, and rabbitry experience, and occassionally will take in an owner release horse whom can't be cared for anymore. All our animals must pass temperment testing before being deemed adoptible!!!
