We take care of lost, stray, abandoned and unwanted animals. We provide for them until they can be adopted into good, loving homes. All animals are given a first distemper shot and first wormer. We neuter or spay all that are old enough at the time of adoption. If you are considering adding a new pet to your family, please come and look at all of our wonderful animals!

Animal control for the City of Powell is just one of the many responsibilities of the Powell Police Department and is a priority for the Community Service Officer. Animal control isn't limited to dogs running at large but we also are concerned for the safety, welfare and education of both citizens and animals which may be sick, injured, dangerous, creating a nuisance, abandoned, found or lost. The City of Powell/Moyer Animal Shelter's daily operation is assisted by the organization "Caring for Powell Animals" and many volunteers.

Wind River Furry Friends No-Kill Animal Shelter is a non-profit organization that was established in January 2006, located in Fort Washakie, on the Wind River Indian Reservation in west-central Wyoming, home of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes. There are many stray, unwanted and abused animals on the Wind River Reservation. Fremont County animal control does not have jurisdiction on the Reservation; therefore, we work closely with Eastern Shoshone Housing Authority, since they lost their funding and no longer can house any unwanted animals. Furry Friends is staffed by volunteer efforts and we are relying on donations and contributions to support our start-up shelter on the Rez. We have created a tribal youth group that we hope to train and then they can go into the schools to talk about animal care and pet spay and neutering. We also advocate for people to go to local shelters and adopt unwanted pets instead of buying pets through expensive pet stores. We have created an alliance with the following organizations, and we would like to thank them for their generous assistance: The Pet Connection in Lander; Hines General Store in Ft. Washakie; Lander Mills who has donated animal food; and Lander Animal Hospital, who provide spay/neutering and discounted animal health checks

Rainbow Rescuers visit kill shelters to identify adoptable, healthy dogs with good dispositions that will soon be euthanized, usually simply due to lack of space at the shelter. The dog is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested and groomed. Often dogs with special medical needs are treated and rehabilitated before adoption. Rainbow Rescues is non-profit ( 501c3), depending solely on donations to cover the above vet expenses plus any fostering, office and transport costs. Direct rescue donations are appreciated. You can also log onto www.helpingudders.com and list Rainbow Rescues as your charity of choice. And, shop at www.rescuepetstore.com. Thank you.
