Approximately 50% of the dogs that we rescue come to us directly from owners who are no longer able to care for them for one reason or another. The number one reason that we receive dogs is ?Moving?, with the number two reason of ?No time for? is a close second. Dogs also come to us when owners become ill or hospitalized, when owners pass away, when families lose their homes or lifestyles change. The other 50% of the dogs in our care are plucked from public animal shelters throughout Southern California when no owner comes to claim them or when they are no longer wanted. We race to save as many of these dogs into our care as we can, however limited space and resources constantly make our task difficult.

Lost and abandoned animals have a second chance at a good life– thanks to the Pet Project Foundation and the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter. The mission of the Pet Project Foundation is “to enhance the quality of life of all companion animals in a pro-humane manner through compassion, responsibility, education and service. Nowhere is this mission better exemplified than through our ongoing support of the shelter. This special shelter provides food, housing, exercise, medical care, and love for homeless animals until they are reunited with their owners or permanent, loving homes are found.

We are the classic “Mom and Pop operation. We are a retired couple who, after 10 years of raising Guide Dogs for the visually impaired have decided to rescue small dogs instead. Ten years of bringing in 8 wk. old puppies and raising them to 16-18 month old magnificent, intelligent, ready to please and ready to work adolescent dogs finally became too much of a heartbreak and we’ve decided to do something on a smaller, more personal scale. We love dogs and we love to see them enhance a life.
