Twelve years ago a handful of people got together and decided that they should help do something about the number of unwanted domestic animals in our area. At that time they decided to form an organization called "Pet Neutering Services, Inc.". Pet Neutering Service's function was to help limited income people spay/neuter their pets.
Over the years Pet Neutering and their participating veterinarians have assisted thousands of people spay/neuter their pets. In doing so, Pet Neutering gradually took on the responsibility of fostering and finding homes for unwanted animals.
In the last couple of years our foster program has grown so much that we decided to change our name to "Pet Neutering & Adoption Services, Inc.". While we cannot help everyone that contacts us we try to help as many people and as many animals as we can. The organization also assists both Jasper and surrounding counties in occasional pet rescue and adoption when possible. Our organization found loving homes for numerous cats & dogs. This is a great accomplishment considering the small number of active volunteers that we have.
Pet Neutering & Adoption Services, Inc., is operated solely by volunteers and funded solely through their fund-raising efforts and memberships.

We operate as a not-for-profit organization ( we are currently working on our 501(c) 3 status ) dedicated to placing solid temperamented GSD's and giving them a second chance to serve. We are not affiliated with any other GSD Rescue in INDIANA. The philosophy of this rescue is soley that of Melody Miller and of no other. Melody has taken great pride in placing non-aggressive dogs that have been thoroughly temperament tested. Children are our first and foremost concern when placing these dogs.

Humane Society Northwest Indiana is a Not for Profit Humane Society located in Gary's Miller Beach neighborhood. We are a small facility that has been called the Cleanest and Friendliest Shelter that our visitors have seen! Our animals stay with us as long as they remain healthy and adoptable, but we really want our furry "guests" to find homes quickly... but we do request an application from our potential adopters. We are open every day 11AM to 4PM, except we are closed on Thursdays and Sundays. Please come and visit or call! We are not for profit and do rely on donations and grants for our day to day operation... so of course every donation and successful adoption are very appreciated!

We rescue purebred Dobermans and exotic birds. We are NOT a 501-c3 (donations are not tax deductible). We take care of the bills for the animals with the help of our wonderful vet, and a handful of other Doberman and Bird lovers. For the past 25+ years (and don't ask me [Chuck, Mary's husband] exactly how many years!) Mary has been involved with rescuing just about anything that came along (including me!). She is very knowledgeable in canine and parrot behavior and has a degree in Animal Science. She is also a groomer, dog trainer, pet sitter, and an animal massage practioner. She also represents a holistic pet food/nutritional supplements company out of Florida. She has taken her birds into libraries and schools to educate children about pet care and responsibility. We are a family affair! Our sons Andrew, Stephen, and Joseph have grown up around the animals and have become very knowledgeable in pet care, etc. They are a tremendous help to the rescue efforts.

The Hancock County Humane Society is a no-kill*, non-profit animal shelter. This shelter has been in existance for many years and has always been staffed entirely by volunteers and funded entirely on donations from the local community. It is our goal to find permanent safe and loving homes for the pets in our care. We would also like to promote community education and awareness. It cannot be stressed enough the importance of early spay/neuter of a pet. We simply cannot keep up with the rate of over-population in cats and dogs on our own and must have the support of the entire community if we are ever to eliminate this problem. Additionally, we would like to stress the importance of a pet wearing I.D.. This can be in the form of a collar with a tag, a microchip implanted by your veterinarian or both. A lost pet is most likely to be returned to its home if it is wearing I.D.. Please note that we are NOT part of the county Animal Care and Control Shelter but are a completely separate shelter.
*No-kill meaning healthy pets with good temperaments are kept until adopted no matter how many years it may take. We do first attempt to treat unhealthy pets whenever possible.

We are a city and county funded shelter that is dedicated to public safety and animal rescue. We continue to work to control the animal population within our area, by requiring all animals adopted from our facility be spay or neutered. With this program we hope to reduce the rate of euthanasia. Our staff is always available to educate the public about the health and welfare issues of animals, and enforce cruelty and neglect laws as well as ordinances within our city and county.
We also work hard to reunite lost and stray pets with their owners and promote new and responsible pet ownership. If you lose your pet please make every effort to find them. Visit your local Animal Control Shelter and all surrounding shelters, post signs, posters with veterinarians and stores, as well as ads in the newspapers. Remember THEY depend on You.
