We are a small private rescue group trying to improve the lives of animals in our city. Our passion for animals is what has got our rescue group started! We do not believe in killing an innocent animal just because their owner did not want them any longer. Our promise is to test every animal that comes to our rescue group and do our best to place them in the right home! Because our group is new and small we are in need of a few volunteers, donations of all kinds, and foster homes.

The mission of Friends of Liberty Animal Shelter is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals by way of education, humane animal population control and care for homeless, strayed, or unwanted animals. Our group survives strictly on tax-deductible contributions and is run completely by volunteers. Donations are used to fund our low cost spay/neuter program, to provide veterinary care to rescued animals, to educate the community on companion animal issues and to distribute our bi-annual newsletter.

We are dedicated to finding permanent, quality homes for our adoptable animals. Those wanting to adopt an animal from us will be asked to complete an adoption application for that purpose. We strive to place each animal into an appropriately matched home. Some dogs or cats are fine with children and other pets, and may be appropriate for first time pet owners. Other animals may have behavioral issues, or be more assertive in their demeanor, requiring more experienced owners.

Heartland Weimaraner Rescue is honored to have been selected as 1 of only 300 rescue groups and shelters nationwide to participate in the Purina Pro Plan's Rally to Rescue Program.
As a part of the program to promote the adoption of rescue animals a "Rally to Rescue" collar and bracelet have been designed to sell, which in turn assist that group in raising the much needed funds to continue their own rescue efforts

Sharon McKinney has been the Animal Control Officer in Raymore for almost 14 years and has placed several hundred animals into new homes. Due to an illness in the family, she has had to take a different road in the field of veterinary medicine. She is now working on becoming a licensed veterinary technologist through the American Veterinary Medical Association, and will pursue a degree in veterinary medicine in the future.

We are a city run animal shelter that is licensed through the State of Missouri. We have very limited space, so we are not able to take owner relinquished animals. We have an excellent adoption program, work with rescue groups, but occasionally we have to euthanize. Our address is 1023 S Madison which can be accessed off south 71 Hwy at the Belton/Raymore exit (58 Hwy). If you would like to visit us, give us a call, and our dispatchers will give you directions.

We rescue Golden Retrievers and place them in great homes! While we think they are the most wonderful breed in the world, they don't work in every household; they are large, active and they shed. They are very intelligent, which gets them into trouble if they get bored, and they MUST be trained, preferably at a young age, so that they can be the super pet they were meant to be. Training is included with most adoptions, in addition to spaying or neutering and other veterinary care.
