Cats-Are-Purrsons-TooIncorporated in Illinois in 1989, Cats-Are-Purrsons-Too began as a safe haven in the home of Sister Marijon Binder for cats that elderly neighbors could no longer keep because of changing life situations. As word spread, "neighbors" form all over Chicago and the Northern/Northwest suburbs began to call begging for board for their beloved companion cats during a short term hospital or nursing home stay, and/or to keep them if/when the person died. At the same time it seems that little catnip calling cards in secret felines language were being passed around in alleys and dumping grounds where cats and kittens were in desperately unsafe situations. Chicagoland Bully Breed RescueWe are located in IL but have foster homes and use boarding kennels throughout IL, IN and WI. We do not have a physical shelter facility so we cannot always take in a dog but we will do our best to help you find a home for a dog in need. We do adopt out nationally but please remember you will be required to pay for all transportation costs and there will be special provisions to your adoption. Also we will require that you do come and meet the dog before taking it home as well. Kankakee County Animal FoundationThe Kankakee County Animal Foundation is a Voluntary Not For Profit Organization which consists of a Board of Directors, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The KCAF is located in Kankakee County Illinois. The organization's focus is Fostering, Adoptions, Emphasizing Spay/Neuter and Responsible Pet Ownership Education. The organization's volunteer foster homes are important to the success of the adoption process. Local shelters are also part of this process. Local veterinarians are used to provide necessary animal wellness which includes all vacinations,lab tests, etc. As part of the KCAF's project, through donations, they provide the monetary resources to enable the local veterinarians to provide low cost spay/neuter. Additionally, our volunteers strive to educate the public about responsible pet ownership. They call upon friends, teachers, scout leaders, parents, etc., for help. Most of the reasons that animals end up in animal control are preventable by teaching children animal safety and pet care. Many of the problems of today can be decreased as these children grow up and become responsible pet owners. The Foundation has asked educators to add this information to their units on safety, biology, etc., urging scout leaders to encourage children to work toward badges related to these subjects. Parents need to set the good example by teaching their children safe, responsible pet care at home. KCAF provides information on related educational materials. Kankakee County Humane SocietyThe Kankakee County Humane Society celebrates 42 years of service to the community as the area's only NO KILL facility. The Humane Society began in 1963 with a few dedicated volunteers and no place to house abandoned, lost, and sometimes abused animals. MideWest Dachshund Rescue, Inc.In March 2003, five committed, energetic volunteers founded MidWest Dachshund Rescue, Inc., dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and placing homeless and needy dachshunds and dachshund mixes in the Midwest. MWDR is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization serving Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. From March 2003 through December 2004, our tireless group of volunteers took in, fostered and provided vet care for 179 needy dachshunds. Such a commitment does not come without significant effort and costs.
